International buyers interested in participating in BTL 2017 can now submit their application on the Lisbon Tourism Exchange website at http://btl.fil.pt/hosted-buyers/.

Once submitted, the applications will be carefully analysed by BTL, TAP and Turismo de Portugal. Only accepted applicants will later be invited to join the hosted buyers programme.

International travel agents, DMC directors, tour operators and other professionals in the tourism sector can apply on the BTL website.

Fátima Vila Maior, director of fairs at FIL and responsible for BTL, states: “The hosted buyers programme has been one of the priorities of the organisation, since it is a great way to boost the Portuguese market abroad, by strengthening meeting contacts, presentations and activities reserved for registered companies. The city of Lisbon, and Portugal as a destination in general, only have to gain from the presence of hosted buyers from different international destinations, from the more traditional to emerging markets. ”

The hosted buyers programme is organised by BTL in partnership with Turismo de Portugal and TAP Portugal and aims to support the arrival of international buyers with specific interest in Portugal. This programme also counts on the support of APAVT and various hotels in Lisbon – also BTL partners.

The BTL 2017 will be held from March 15 to 19 at FIL, Parque das Nações.

Accessible for the first time via mobile phone

BTL 2017, the largest tourism fair in Portugal, is betting on the technological improvement of its meeting scheduling platform aimed at hosted buyers, designed to facilitate contact between exhibiting companies and international buyers.

In addition to allowing hosted buyers to update their profile, confirm the products and services they represent and directly schedule meetings, the programme will also be available for the first time in mobile format.

Fátima Vila Maior, director of FIL’s fair area and responsible for BTL, said: “Several efforts have been made to improve the hosted buyers platform and the launch of this new tool is proof of this. We have every interest in facilitating meetings scheduling and enabling a faster and more effective contact between the buyers and the companies present in the programme. More than that, with these improvements, it will be possible to ensure interaction between buyers and exhibitors.”

The hosted buyers programme, which has been held since 2010, is currently being reformulated and will support the visit of international buyers interested in exploring Portugal, enabling users to take part in tours aimed at specific tourism segments, namely wine, nature and gastronomy, among others. Next year’s edition will have the support of its usual strategic partners, namely TAP, Turismo de Portugal, APAVT, Barraqueiro and various hotels in Lisbon.

“Next year’s hosted buyers programme aims to consolidate the last edition’s numbers and aims to reach Europe’s traditional markets and strengthen the presence of countries such as the United States, Canada, Brazil, China and the northern region of Europe. We will also maintain our partnership with the Ourém-Fátima Business Association (ACISO), integrating Religious Tourism as one of the main segments to be promoted among buyers.”

BTL 2017 will take place from March 15 to 19 at FIL in the Parque das Nações.

Stand allocation meetings held on December 6th and 7th

The organisation of the 29th edition of BTL – Lisbon Tourism Exchange, which will take place from March 15 to 19 at FIL (Parque das Nações), is well under way and is expected to be “an excellent BTL, with much on offer for both the professional public and weekend visitors,” says Fátima Vila Maior, director of FIL’s fair area and responsible for BTL.

“The first stand allocations were made yesterday and are ongoing until the end of today, with the fair almost complete. We are feeling great confidence and expectation on behalf of the exhibitors regarding BTL 2017,” says Vila Maior.

In total, the fair will occupy an area of more than 30,200 m2, to which it will add a new space dedicated to gastronomy, located in Pavilion 4, with a great variety of catering companies. Pavilion 1 will host the national tourism promotion entities, Pavilion 2 will accommodate hotel services and companies, while Pavilion 3 will gather tour operators and distributors as well as travel agencies.

BTL 2017 (Lisbon Tourism Exchange) will consolidate its role as the largest tourism fair in Portugal and confirms the great moment that the sector is experiencing. To date, the enrolment balance is very positive, bearing in mind that the Lisbon Tourism Exchange will have 400 more exhibitors than in 2016.

“The enrolment phase ended on November 18th and we already have 1,450 confirmed exhibitors, from different segments, from travel agencies, hotels, tourist activities, associations and municipalities. The allocation of spaces will take place during the first days of December,” comments Fátima Vila Maior, director of FIL’s fair area and responsible for the BTL.

“The most significant increase was in the Distribution sector, which is a sign of travel agents and tour operators’ growing commitment to using the BTL as a platform to showcase and market their products to the public.”

BTL 2017 is the largest tourism event in Portugal, which is aimed at professionals and the public and is held annually at FIL – Parque das Nações. BTL 2017 will run from March 15 to 19.

Madeira is the Highlighted National Destination of the 29th edition of the Lisbon Tourism Exchange. BTL, the largest tourism event in Portugal, will take place at FIL, Parque das Nações, from March 15 to 19, 2017.

Madeira, a destination of excellence in great demand with both national and foreign tourists, was awarded several international prizes recognised by the tourism sector. This year it was badly hit by fires, despite which, not losing its charm, natural beauty and friendliness of its inhabitants, leading FIL, the AIP Foundation, to bet on the various tourism segments of this Autonomous Region. According to the President of the Board of Madeira’s Promotion Association, Eduardo Jesus, “it was with great satisfaction that Madeira accepted the challenge, set by the Lisbon Tourism Exchange, to be the highlighted destination of the next edition of this important event. This is an excellent opportunity to promote the image of Madeira in what is the most respected and recognised fair of the sector in Portugal.”

Madeira has been represented with vigor and charm at BTL year after year, with an ever renewed stand. Its presence at BTL 2016, with the motto “Discover Madeira”, was a success and Eduardo Jesus said he hopes “to surpass the success of our participation this year [2016], continuing with the project” of this region, which represents “much more than a tourist destination, where the sea, nature and lifestyle can be experienced all year round.”

Eduardo Jesus concludes that “this news could not be more timely, having been recognised as the best island destination in Europe and at a time when all of Madeira’s tourism production indicators are growing.” He anticipates, “that this could turn out to be the best year ever for the regional tourism sector.”
